Glenwood Celebrates American Heart Month

Location: West Monroe, LA: In honor of American Heart Month, Glenwood Regional Medical Center will celebrate National Wear Red Day® on Friday, February 2 and by sponsoring, in part, the 2018 Northeast Louisiana Go Red for Women luncheon on Thursday, February 15. Heart Month recognition will continue throughout February as Little Hats, Big Hearts™ distributes hats to newborns at the hospital.

National Wear Red Day (Feb. 2)
Glenwood Regional Medical Center invites guests to visit the booth outside the hospital cafeteria by the main elevators from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, for National Wear Red Day (sponsored by the American Heart Association® and Go Red for Women™).

Come show your support for women’s heart health and join hospital staff, health care providers, volunteers, patients and visitors. The event will feature a Go Red for Women Activity Booth where participants can spin the wheel to win a prize or have their photo taken for the Glenwood Facebook page. Guests are encouraged to wear red, even a simple red sweater, jacket, hat, or scarf is enough to qualify!

At the conclusion of the event, Glenwood will donate $250 in honor of the employee whose photo garners the most “likes” and “shares” on Facebook. Employees are encouraged to team up with their departments for the competition!

Go Red for Women (Feb. 15)
Recognition of Heart Month will continue on Thursday, February 15, with the 2018 Northeast Louisiana Go Red for Women luncheon, sponsored in part by Glenwood Regional Medical Center.

Little Hats, Big Hearts (All Month)
Throughout the month of February, Glenwood Regional Medical Center is proud to partner with Little Hats, Big Hearts (in connection with the American Heart Association and The Children's Heart Foundation) in providing handmade knitted and crocheted hats to newborn babies. Founded in Chicago in 2014, Little Hats, Big Hearts has rapidly grown over the last four years; today, the organization has relationships with hospitals in 40 states. Volunteers with the program craft warm red hats for infants born in the month of February in an effort to raise awareness of congenital heart defects, heart disease and heart health.

Join Us In Celebrating Heart Month
Glenwood Regional Medical Center invites the community to join in the Heart Month festivities. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in both men and women in the United States. However, nearly 80% of deaths caused by heart disease and stroke-related illness could be prevented by addressing manageable risk factors like high blood pressure, smoking and obesity. Join us this February in advocating for better heart health through one or all of these American Heart Month events.
