Glenwood Regional Medical Center Recognizes Connie Rushing, RN with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
WEST MONROE, LOUISIANA — Glenwood Regional Medical Center is proud to recognize Connie Rushing, RN with The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses, a national honor presented by The DAISY Foundation to celebrate nurses who demonstrate excellence in clinical care and provide extraordinary compassion to patients and families.
Connie was nominated by a grateful family member of a patient receiving treatment for lung cancer. The heartfelt nomination read: “Connie is an extraordinary RN. My husband was being treated for lung cancer, and her care and concern for him, as well as our entire family, was absolutely amazing. We felt like his wellbeing was her utmost concern. She treated us like her own family. She deserves the DAISY Award more than any nurse ever did. I truly thank her and appreciate her.”
Connie’s calling to nursing began at the age of 19. She started her healthcare journey at Glenwood in 1984 as a unit secretary on 4 North. After earning her nursing degree from the University of Louisiana Monroe (then NLU) in 1994, she went on to serve patients with compassion and purpose for over 31 years.
“To me, being a nurse is a calling,” Connie shared. “I know that I’m doing God’s work. When I’m caring for patients and their families in a hospital setting, I know I’m contributing to their wellbeing. I thoroughly love caring for my patients.”
Connie has worked at hospitals across the region but says Glenwood is where her heart is. “I’ve been at Glenwood a total of six years, and I love working here the best,” she said.
Tia Graves, Director of Critical Care Services, shared, “Connie brings a wealth of experience and clinical knowledge to our unit. With decades of nursing under her belt, she consistently delivers excellent patient care and serves as a role model for younger nurses. Her dedication and professionalism are qualities that many on our team look up to and learn from every day.”
Sandy Goss, Chief Nursing Officer at Glenwood and Chair of the DAISY Award Committee, also praised Connie’s recognition: “Connie’s commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care truly embodies the mission of the DAISY Award. As a leader and caregiver, she is a shining example of the excellence we strive for every day at Glenwood. The DAISY Award is our way of honoring nurses like Connie who go above and beyond, often in quiet and powerful ways.”
About The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO, and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation said, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Glenwood are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
Nominations for the DAISY award is encouraged year-round, and winners are chosen by a committee. Patients, families, and colleagues are all encouraged to nominate nurses who exemplify compassionate care beyond their call of service.
