Glenwood Regional Medical Center Regional Medical Center Earns National Recognition for Stroke Care Excellence
The American Heart Association presents Glenwood with the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Award and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll designation for the seventh consecutive year.
West Monroe, Louisiana — Glenwood Regional Medical Center has once again earned national recognition from the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Award and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. This marks the seventh consecutive year Glenwood has been recognized through this program, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to improving stroke outcomes through evidence-based care ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.
Glenwood’s progression in this program, from Bronze in the first year, to Silver Plus, and now multiple years at Gold Plus, reflects the hospital’s unwavering focus on delivering timely, coordinated, and lifesaving treatment for stroke patients. The addition of the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award highlights Glenwood’s excellence in caring for stroke patients with type 2 diabetes, a population at significantly higher risk for complications.
“Every second counts when it comes to stroke,” said Dr. Mark Boersma, CEO/CMO of Glenwood Regional Medical Center. “This recognition is more than just a badge; this award reflects our team’s commitment to delivering exceptional care when it matters most. We’re proud to bring nationallevel stroke treatment to the heart of our community.”
The Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke program helps hospitals consistently apply the latest research-based guidelines to improve outcomes for stroke patients, leading to higher survival rates, reduced long-term disability, and faster recoveries. These improvements have a direct and meaningful impact on the health of our patients and our community.
“This award represents Glenwood’s steadfast commitment to clinical excellence and the well being of our patients,” said Cheryl Faulkenberry, Director of Quality Management. “We’re proud to maintain the highest standards in stroke care year after year.”
Sandy Goss, Chief Nursing Officer, added: “This achievement is a direct result of the tireless work of our emergency department and clinical teams. From the moment a stroke patient enters our doors, they receive rapid, evidence-based care designed to give them the best chance of recovery.”
Participation in the American Heart Association’s stroke program has been shown to reduce hospital readmissions, lower mortality, and improve overall outcomes, benefits that directly impact the health and longevity of our local community. Glenwood’s ongoing commitment to these standards helps ensure that patients in Northeast Louisiana have access to nationally recognized stroke care, close to home.
